The City of Belpre will soon be testing for the position of Police Officer and Dispatcher for the Belpre Police Department. Below is the information on the positions.

City of Belpre Police Officer–Probationary

(You need to read all of the information below before submitting your application)

The Belpre Municipal Civil Service Commission will hold a COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION at Belpre Volunteer Fire Department Training Center (Bingo Hall) corner of Stone Road and Washington Blvd., Monday, February 27, 2017, for the purpose of completing a POOL of eligible candidates for the following job classification and for the following agency: (Note: there is currently NO open position.)

CITY OF BELPRE – Police Officer (probationary)–Rate of Pay: $17.34 hourly.

Eligibility requirements for applicants are:

  1. Be a U.S. citizen
  2. Be between the ages of 21 and 34 (can’t turn 35 before being hired)
  3. Possess a valid Driver’s License
  4. Be a high school graduate or higher
  5. Possess NO criminal record/NO serious traffic offenses
  6. Be OPOTA certified (with documents provided to Civil Service Commission) or shall obtain certification by date of employment. Spring 2017 Academy graduates are encouraged to apply.

Upon completion and successfully passing the Civil Service Examination and placement on the eligibility list, he/she then must be able to:

  1. Pass an in-depth background investigation (criminal, financial)
  2. Pass a polygraph test
  3. Submit to a psychological test
  4. Pass medical/physical examination (paid by the City)


City of Belpre: Police Department Dispatcher

The Belpre Municipal Civil Service Commission will hold a COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION at the Belpre Volunteer Fire Department’s Training Center (Bingo Hall); corner of Stone Road and Washington Blvd. on Monday, February. 27, 2017, at 6 p.m. at Belpre Fire Department Training Center (Bingo Hall) at the corner of Stone Road and Washington Blvd., Belpre) for the purpose of filling eligibility lists for the following job classification: (Note: this is for a pool of candidates for potential hiring. There is currently NO open position)

Duties:  Works as Police/Fire/EMS Dispatcher; works rotating shifts;  Communicates with the Police, Fire Department and the General Public;  and Posts appropriate information to the Police Department computer data base.  Hourly salary is $15.37 based on 2016 effective pay schedule.

Requirements:  Experience in Computer Skills , Phone Communications Skills, and Personal Contact Communication Skills.  Your application must reflect that you are proficient in the above skills either by appropriate formal training or by work experience.  Applicants must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and withstand a satisfactory background investigation.

Cost:  There is a $25 Fee for taking the examination.  This fee is required when the application is received. Do not send cash. Checks or Money Orders should be made payable to the City of Belpre Municipal Civil Service Commission.  If the Fee is not included with your application, it will not be considered. You cannot pay your fee on the day of the examination. Application fee will NOT be refunded in the event of non-appearance for testing.

Candidates desiring to take the above-named examination must file an application (available on,) with all of the required documentation. NO RESUMES WILL BE ACCEPTED. Application must be completed and mailed to the Belpre Municipal Civil Service Commission, P.O. Box 503, Belpre, Ohio 45714 and must be received by Monday, February 6, 2017, 4:00 p.m. (NOTE:  DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION TO THE CITY OF BELPRE OR BELPRE POLICE DEPARTMENT.  ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE MAILED TO THE ABOVE P.O. BOX TO BE CONSIDERED!)

Veterans must include a copy of their DD-214 with the applications to be considered for Military Credit. Credit for Military Service will be considered for all applications with a passing score.

No one will be allowed to enter for testing 30 minutes prior to test time or ten minutes after the time testing begins. No Cell Phones are allowed in the test area. Bring a valid driver’s license.

Failure to appear for any Civil Service Examination will result in the placement of your applications in our inactive file. No fee refunds will be issued following non-appearance for testing.
