The Belpre Police Department is a 24-hour a day/7 days a week operating department. The department consists of 1 Chief of Police, 8 sworn Civil Service Officers, 1 sworn Civil Service Investigator, 1 sworn Civil Service K-9 Officer, 1 Certified Police K-9, 5 sworn Civil Service Reserve Officers, 4 full time 911 dispatchers, 1 Mayors Court Clerk, and 1 Mayors Court Assistant Clerk. All of our Officers are certified through the State of Ohio OPOTA (Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy) program, in which students concentrate on developing or improving skills in firearms, legal administration, human relations, traffic, patrol, first aid, driving, subject control, physical conditioning, investigations, and civil disorder aspects of law enforcement. The department answers a wide variety of calls for service, from traffic violations and barking dogs to domestic violence and drug trafficking. Some of our Officers have received specialized training and are in specialized units like Investigations, K-9, Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), Crash Reconstruction Expert, Special Response Team (SRT), and the Washington Morgan Noble Major Crimes Task Force.
